creative desks: carolyn sewell

I am a super nerdy graphic designer/illustrator who surfs the internets for all things typographic and unicorny. I recently celebrated the 3rd anniversary of owning my own
biz, which totally blows my mind. Several years ago I started a blog called Pedestrian Typography, where I posted photos of good/bad/fugly street signage. After a few years of doing that I became interested (read: obsessed) in hand-lettering and decided to start the project Postcards To My Parents, where I hand-drew and mailed a postcard to my parents every day for a year. And after that I couldn’t stop, so I started Postcards To My Peeps. Although I don’t send one every day, I’m slowly getting a card out to everyone I care about or admire. It’s gonna take a while.

Poketo is an art and lifestyle brand collaborating with international artists and designers for what is called "art for your everday", fusing art with everything from apparel, accessories, housewares, stationery... virtually anything that fits into your daily life. Being one of the founders, I travel and meet artists and designers from all over the world. This has allowed me to collect original artwork, personal one of one designs, and cool trinkets and toys from our travels. You see a lot of it here on my desk, always inspiring to look up at awesome things.

creative desks: brett macfadden

We run our practice from a downtown San Francisco studio space and sit side-by-side at a 9-ft long oak desk made by our friend Michael Stewart. It's very, very, sturdy. You can jump and down on the tabletop and it will barely flex. (Yes, I have!)

creative desks: leah sakellarides

I write a creative blog about adventure, travel, and science called
Velokova. Fumbling around a messy workspace is not the kind of adventure I like, so I keep my desk as organized as possible. Eliminating clutter helps me think clearly so I can focus on what really matters. I can't live without road trips through the desert, mountain biking, photography, avocados, and learning about deep space.

You can find Leah on Twitter.

creative desks: new feature!

We are excited at blueantstudio! we contacted some of the greatest minds in the industry and asked them to submit a picture of the desk where they work. It's amazing the wide range of design ethos that goes into each individual, ranging from peaceful and minimalistic to organized chaos. We will expand on this series every week and look forward to more in the future... Do you have a desk that belongs into this new section? Please contact us at memi@bellsouth.net for more details. Image should be awesome and 600 pixels.

I edit Lifework for Herman Miller and in my spare time work on my own blogs - thisisadesignblog and because sometimes i forget . Lifework is all about working from home so when we moved into a new house and I got to take over half the garage I had more than a few ideas about how to make the space work. Warm minimal was my aim and I am very happy with the result (as is the dog).

creative desks: shelby white

As a designer & photographer for Wanken, writer at ISO50 and Founder of Designspiration, it only seems appropriate that my workspace reflects a lot of visual inspiration. My space is intentionally simple; less clutter means more work gets done.

creative desks: gregory han

Working for both
Apartment Therapy and Unplggd, it seems perfectly appropriate my home office embodies small space live/work practices. What my closet office lacks in size and space is made up by a plentitude of vertical shelf space (most of it occupied by my graphic novel collection), optimized compact furnishings and home office elements, alongside a decor scheme similar to what I'd imagine Bruce Wayne's desk would look like if Tom Ford was invited to decorate.

creative desks: adrienne breaux

Adrienne Breaux is the Editor-in-Chief of the fabulously awesome
blog at 2Modern. She also contributes to Apartment Therapy and Austin's go-to online publication, CultureMap.

I’m a writer, blogger, design nerd, crafter, photographer and wit master here in Austin.  A graduate of Louisiana State University with a B.A. in Interior Design, I worked in the design field for years at a number of different design jobs, ran my own interior design consulting firm for over a year, and now do all sorts of freelance writing for the web and in print on the subjects of interior design, architecture, furniture, home design tips, the modern family, eco-friendly ideas, Austin and more. When I’m not writing about creating perfect spaces and fabulous designs, I enjoy making things and more writing. I’m currently still trying to find that perfect balance of somehow managing to do copious amounts of it all. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. When I’m not doing any of the above mentioned, I can usually be found hiking, walking or running around the Greenbelt or Town Lake. I also really like smoothies, sushi and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This is the working desk of John & Sherry Petersik, who run a home improvement website called

creative desks: jaime derringer

Jaime Derringer, editor of
Design Milk and Dog Milk, lover of cheese, design enthusiast...
This is where I work and play all day, every day. Although I have a laptop, I like working at my desk best - it motivates me to get things done. Otherwise, I'll get distracted and end up in a black hole of Bravo TV and Doritos. My desk isn't usually this clean, but I try to keep it fairly tidy or I can't work. My office is one room in our new house that needs to be redesigned, since it also functions as the laundry room. We've been pretty busy with other projects, including a baby on the way, but one of these days I'll get to it...

creative desks: marcus fairs

The Dezeen offices are in a converted doctor's surgery in Stoke Newington, north London. Despite being a global website we are very proud of our neighbourhood and try to work with local people whenever we can - our graphic designer and our developer both live nearby, for example. Philippe Malouin, a designer who also lives in Stoke Newington, did the interior design for us using off-the-shelf materials and bespoke fixtures. The idea was to create something glamorous and dramatic on a very low budget. He also has a book available now: Dezeen Book of Ideas.
