Architects Michael and Jane Frederick recently won the Best Before and After Southern Home Award for 2009 with their remodeled quonset hut. The home had been built by a World War II veteran.
Quonset huts were favored by the U.S. military during WWII because they required small amounts of masonry and metal to construct and were easy to build. The Fredericks were planning on leveling their quonset hut after purchasing it but decided to remodel after learning how much it meant to the community. The final product is a modern, vibrant space with a hint of an earlier era.
