An artistic icon by Elia Felices for ECO by Cosentino.
Barcelona, june 2010. The interior designer Elia Felices has created “The Eco Jewel” for Cosentino, exhibited at the International Natural Stone in Madrid, and a precedent masterpiece for the concept stores of the brand.
The ECO jewel is an artistic creation designed as a message to convey the values of ECO.
The piece is a reworking of the materials that, when recycled, make up 75% of ECO by Cosentino®, a product created by the firm in response to the growing demand for materials which are sustainable and respect the environment.
Porcelain, glass, metal and mirrors are some of the recycled materials used in ECO that are represented in kitchen utensils and other decorative elements in this work. They are valuable pieces that remind us of the beauty of these materials during their working life, and which are composed into a geometric mosaic.
Elia Felices was inspired by a snow crystal, which is one of the purest elements to be found in nature, and which is one of the best symbols of ecology.
The arrangement of kitchen utensils, containers and dishes, coasters made of bevelled mirrors, bottles of liqueurs and oils, butter dishes and sauce boats, harks back to organic natural forms, from the outlines of leaves to tree-shaped groupings, but which come together geometrically in the form of a star. The chaos inherent within the recycling process is therefore presented in a previous state, suggesting natural order, harmony and beauty. This is the heart of ECO.
The background of the piece is worked up with artist’s paint in the corporate green of ECO, with a textured surface dusted with mica powder. This creates a contrast with the different volumes of white porcelain and is embedded with other pieces of emerald-green cut glass which gives the whole piece light and brilliance. Another series of cut glass gemstones underscore the letters of ECO and provide a setting for the pieces of porcelain.
