ipe deck staining

When we got our ipe deck last year, we really liked the almost cedar-y looking color. Kind of a redish tint. It really made the patio look like a million dollar! Enter the 100+ degree miami summer. Our beautiful patio turned into this grey slab. Still you have the beauty of the texture of the wood grain but after each rain (sometimes twice a day) we had a constant remainder of how beautiful the deck could be as water brings the grey ipe back to life.
Ipe has a natural defense against bugs, has the same fire grade than concrete and it doesn't warp or degrade. In order to bring the look back to it's original splendor, we had to stain it.
We used Australian timber oil and I researched online the best way to apply it to the ipe and I realized that the best way to apply a stain to a wood that is laid horizontally was to use a mop and a bucket. That made everything super easy and fast. We are really happy with the outcome and, if we need to do this every year, I won't have a problem doing so!
Please enjoy the pics!
