Villa Didon Hotel and Spa

This is a Tunisian one-off. Designed by French architect Philippe Boisselier, it’s slickly stylish and coolly modern, with Philippe Starck and Ron Arad furniture in 10 huge, minimalist suites. Target vs designers

Target seems to be trying very hard to get sued. It happened before when they introduced a chinese knock-off of the Emeco Navy chair, which I had the "pleasure" to inspect first hand. Crap, painted to simulate the satin finish in the aluminum, bad welds, pitting and a manufacturer error that causes all the chairs to lean to the left. Emeco sued and they added an additional slab at the back and they are now able to keep selling them. Now they aimed at the Nelson wall clock, even having a reference to George Nelson on the product description.... and it's even overpriced too! $79 for a chinese knock-off? that clock is not even woth $5.99! You decide.

THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF REGIONALISM

The Australian architect, Glenn Murcutt (b. 1936) aroused interest in Denmark on October 1, 2001 when he received the Architecture Society’s “green needle” for thirty years of work with ecologically- correct, quality building. In connection with the award ceremony at Gammel Dok, Murcutt was introduced as a minimalistic architect with a penchant for the modernistic heritage, however, it might have been more accurate to have called him a regionalist, who unites the practical aspects with the poetic.
Basically speaking, Murcutt’s work method consists of analysing the climatic conditions at the site in order to combine wind conditions, solar angles and the water table (such as periodic flooding) with the building’s different organizational functions in an optimized, holistic solution. Where after he adds his structure in a poetic expressiveness - as a sum of considerations to collecting rainwater, solar screening, daylight reflections and natural space-ventilation. This typically results in broad roof eaves or varying degrees of operable facade elements.

Designer of the week... Poul Kjærholm

Poul Kjærholm’s pieces are sculptures in themselves, but with an understated, subtle quality that makes them ideally suited for accompanying art. In 2004, New York’s Museum of Modern Art installed Kjærholm daybeds, tables and chairs in its galleries and restaurant. In his furniture, Kjærholm emphasized use and wear, with a focus on materials that were durable and improved with age. He viewed each piece as an element to support an architectural space, and was equally interested in how a chair or lounge positioned the sitter in relation to the surrounding floors and walls.
Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker, but drawn to the potential of steel, Poul Kjærholm brought craftsmanship and industrial materials together in the design of his PK series of furniture. His career was launched in 1952 when his graduation project from Copenhagen’s School and Arts and Crafts caught the attention of the Denmark design community. The project included a lounge chair crafted of a single piece of steel that demonstrated the type of material expressiveness that would soon become the signature of this designer. “Steel’s constructive potentials are not the only things that interest me,” said the designer. “The refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work. I consider steel a material with the same artistic merit as wood and leather.”

The Pause: Desk is made of solid European oak and stainless steel, and is finished with a natural wax-oil, providing a natural protective finish which can simply be cleaned with a damp cloth. The desk is available in two widths - 160 cm and 240 cm. The image above shows the desk in 240 cm width.

The rotation moulded Bronco stool was originally created to be gathered round the Qrater fire dish whilst Corral is a rotation moulded polyethylene table that can gather seven Bronco stools. Optionally , a lighting unit can be integrated into the table. C’upsidedown is the same Corral table but hung upside down from the ceiling and functioning as a genuine lighting unit.
Besides offering true functional and ergonomic advantages with the Bronco stools, adding a boost of atmosphere with the optional lighting unit in the Corral table or in the C’upsidedown.

BeHive

BeHive, integrating the best of all corners of the world

We played around a bit with the correct spelling of the word bee hive, but BeHive is a concept based upon a round trampoline, positioned about 60 cm high above the surface. It is surrounded by very comfortable side cushions you can either sit, lean or hang against. The trampoline fabric itself also provides maximum comfort and automatically adapts to the form of your body. And as if the lounging comfort wouldn’t be enough we even provided a Corral table in the middle of BeHive so that everybody can reach it. Thanks to a hole in the middle of BeHive’s surface, people that wish to sit straight up can do so too.

Corral

Corral is a rotation moulded polyethylene table that can gather seven Bronco stools (we also thought of that single person in a company of people).

The extra bit is that a number of options, amongst which a lighting unit can be integrated into the table, turning it into a lighting object as well. Thinking even further than that, it will be possible to use Corral as a lighting unit when hung upside down from the ceiling.

Bronco

The Bronco stool offers the same comfort as a true horse saddle and is perfect to gather around Extremis’ Qrater fire dish or Corral table.
