Safe design

by Matthias Megyeri
With his work not only showing in New York MoMA’s main winter exhibition ‘SAFE: Design Takes On Risk’, but also appearing on the cover of the exhibition catalogue, product designer Matthias Megyeri couldn’t have planned a better ending to a great year. The German-born, London-based designer has tapped perfectly into the growing demand for pieces that explore societal issues with products such as his heart-shaped chains, teddy bear padlocks, razor wire butterflies and animal-topped railings.Megyeri says: I’m a socially critical graphic designer working like a journalist, using products as vehicles to transport issues that seem relevant to me. Currently working on getting his prototypes into production.
