Faux Foliage House Facade
If you're unfortunate enough to not have trees in your backyard to provide shade for your house, don't fret, because all you need to do is print your very own trees right onto the side of your home. The faux foliage prints provide ample interior shading during the harsh sunlight hours of the day and a decent privacy barrier at night. Designed by Maynard Architects.

Kauri

The Kauri Road project is the refurbishment of the lower floor of an existing home and the addition of a lap pool and painting studio. The home had previously been renovated by the client about five years ago when they came to BASE to add a pool and studio, and re-do the lower level as they realised that what they had done originally was not suited to their lifestyle. The result was the relocating of the kitchen to open directly onto the outdoor space with a view to the pool and studio and a new entry and stair. The interior was opened up to create an entertaining focused space without a dining room as they wanted to be able to entertain straight out of the kitchen. The aim of the interior was to maintain a simple palette of materials with a layout that could be kept neat and tidy with minimum of effort. The pool to the back yard is raised above an underground sewer but acts as a backdrop to the turfed ‘cricket’ zone in front. Equally the studio is raised to give it the ideal location and improve its visual connection to the home.

affectual chair

By Shawn Weiland. The chair disregards any superfluous or decorative elements for a purist formal language which insists on the materials and the form being directly related to its func- tional uses. Each element of the design looks at how to achieve the most out of the least. The functional attributes of the chair: ergonomics, durability and aesthetics play a vital role in morphogenesis, the creation of form. The angled sides of the seat wrap around the user, stabilizing and enclosing, morphing the chair and user into a single affect. The displaced veneer from where the metal penetrates becomes handles to move the chair as well and grips for the user when seated. The dual leg support on the back of the chair acts as lateral support, replacing any need for cross bracing. Using the minimalist philosophy of reduction to the point where there are no external signifiers, the user must project themselves into the design in order to discover with the chair, promulgating the emotive and experiential qualities that the design creates.

Tromsø Fire Station
Tromsø Fire Station, located in Norway, instantly brings back my childhood desires of becoming a firefighter. The modern building houses a vast assortment of emergency response vehicles, living quarters, recreation space, class rooms, a monitoring room and many other useful fire response areas. The use of orange sprinkled throughout the fire station helps to connect each space into a cohesive unit. Designed by Stein Halvorsen Sivilarkitekter.

house with tiny pool

japanese practice NRM architects office (shunichiro ninomiya and tomoko morodome)
has designed a two-storey residential home in kawachinagano, osaka. 'house with tiny pool'
utilizes a central courtyard as a pivoting point for the layout of the design.
in order to ensure privacy for the residents, the dwelling pinwheels off the courtyard with
the majority of its glazing facing inwards; from the street, the darkly clad facades offer
no glimpse of the interior. while the second level reads like a separate, offset volume from
the outside, it is connected to the ground level by a glass atrium and an overlook.
facing the south, sufficient natural light reaches the bedrooms on the upper floor as well as
the kitchen and dining space underneath. the windows are also deep-set to avoid overheating
while the rest of the house facing a different orientation receives light reflected off
the white courtyard.
